Alfasoft developed, for the Regional Government of the Azores and EDA – Empresa de Eletricidade dos Açores, an interactive platform designed to support the communication of the Regional Energy Strategy and the challenges of the energy transition across the archipelago, as part of the LIFE IP CLIMAZ project. Integrated into the European Union’s LIFE Programme, the project aims to accelerate the implementation of the measures set out in the Regional Climate Change Programme (PRAC), promoting the adaptation, mitigation and resilience of the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
Given the specific context of the Azores, comprising nine independent electricity systems and an increasing integration of renewable energy sources, a digital solution was designed to support a travelling exhibition and make complex topics related to energy, sustainability and strategic planning more accessible. In close collaboration with the Regional Government of the Azores and EDA, Alfasoft was involved in the functional design, UX/UI design and development of a platform comprising an interactive public simulator and a centralised management area for the continuous updating of content.
The solution was developed as a desktop application based on Electron, complemented by a WordPress backoffice for managing content, energy indicators, projects and investments associated with LIFE IP CLIMAZ. These are integrated into the desktop application through the WordPress REST API. The platform was designed to operate entirely offline, ensuring a fully functional experience even in environments without internet access, which is particularly relevant for travelling exhibitions.
During the experience, visitors can explore different scenarios for the evolution of the islands’ energy mix, adjusting the contribution of the various energy sources and viewing the impact of their decisions in real time. Energy data can be centrally updated by administrators, ensuring that up-to-date information is made available whenever connectivity is available.
Developed using modern web technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, VueJS and PHP, the platform combines an engaging visual experience with a flexible and easily maintainable architecture. In addition to the simulation component, it provides detailed information about the projects, actions and planned investments, strengthening its educational component and raising awareness of the challenges posed by climate change.
The result is an innovative solution that transforms complex technical information into a visual, interactive and participatory experience, contributing to energy literacy and supporting the Regional Government of the Azores and EDA in promoting a more resilient, efficient and sustainable energy system.
